Day 73 - Crepes
So today, March 13th, I made plans to meet up with Silvia at a pizza/crepe restaurant, which were simple plans being that it was in my neighborhood. But, alas, I always manage to screw things up, one way or another – it’s a gift, what can I say? I looked it up on google maps and thought I had it memorized, I ventured out on foot and arrived at a pizza joint but guess what? Yep, it was the wrong one. So I asked them if they knew where there was a pizza/crepe place and he looks at me and asks “are you on foot?” I, of course, respond yea. Then he gives me this you-poor-bastard smirk and tells me its waaaay down the street. So I ended up walking like two miles and I was already running late. I get to the end of the street and I still can’t find the place, and to make matters worse I didn’t have Silvia’s number so I couldn’t call her to tell her I was lost. Right about when I was going to give up and go home I received a text from Silvia telling me that she is already at the place and that she is going to order because she got tired of waiting and was starving. After that she tells me how to get to the place and I finally make it. I was about an hour late and she was halfway through her crepe. I learned two things today; 1st don’t trust google maps (however, this can be debated because I did search the wrong place), 2nd crepes can be salty, too (I could have sworn they were just sweet, at least that’s the only kind of crepe I had tasted before).
It was delicious!

You know those movie scenes when someone wakes up next to a beautiful complete stranger? Well, that was me today; I awoke to this breathtakingly beautiful girl next to me. However I also awoke with a massive hangover as a result of mixing beer, cheap wine, and vodka. However, the awesomeness was short lived for the walk home was long and bright… and I did not have my sunglasses. Any who, I got home showered and fell dead asleep. Later that day a bunch of my friends wanted to get together to make some guacamole and tortillas – so the adventure began. At around 10pm we got started. We got six massive avocados and all the other necessary ingredients and got to work. It was so nice to have some homeland delicacies the night was a success. Made some new friends, met up with old friends and we all ate to our hearts content. This picture was us in mid process of completing the guacamole.

So today I woke up at my new place and I woke up early… nine-ish. I wanted to go out and about but I was stuck at home because of the rain… and it was really coming down. I finally got out of the house around two thirty – three. I went to Pedro’s to pick up my camera since I ended up leaving it there rather that walking home late last night with it. I got to his house and there at his house there are a few guys that I met in Passos two years ago when I was here the first time. There was Lucas, Allan, and Bruno. We ended up going to eat some açai – yes it is as good as it looks, even better. After, we went to a bar and drank like 30 liters of beer among five of us. I had a blast today; I am actually still kind of drunk right now. So if there are any errors please forgive due to my current state of mind. Love you all! And just to finish the phrase I started the pic with Mmm delícia, assim você me mata!

Day 17 - Balanced Meal

Today was supposed to be a relax day… but apparently I do not know how to drive. I backed up and broke the driver side mirror. This turned my relaxed day into a hectic one. I ventured out to run my many errands; however, I forgot my camera at home. I went to the junk yard – this would have produced a disgustingly beautiful picture. On my way home, I was re-introduced to REAL traffic, not that pseudo-Las Cruces-traffic. A normally 30 min drive took me over an hour and a half. Moreover, the entire drive home I kept thinking “I should have brought my camera. We are going so slow I could get off and take a picture before we start moving again.” Alas, I had to come up with a creative image here at home. This is it… for me, growing up, no meal was complete without beans and rice – a truly balanced meal.

Shutter Speed: 1/4000 sec

Last night I went to bed around 3 am and had to wake up at 6 to catch a flight. I was very excited to take some aerial pictures for you, once in the air I came to the sad realization I was flying west ward over Texas... there is nothing but desert! So I figured I would do what my niece, Anais, told me -- get the airplane peanuts and make them into the shape of an airplane. I thought it was funny and genius. The credit for this image is all hers!

Aperture: F/5.6

I felt like a little kid today. I had ordered some accessories over a week ago and they were due to arrive today. I opened up the packages and there they were – my new wide-angle lens, my fish eye lens, and some macro filter lens. So, to continue with the analogy, I setup my new toys and started playing with them right away. It took me awhile to figure out that after a certain magnification the focus ring no longer works and that you have to physically move the camera forwards/backwards until you focus on the correct plane. Yummy! Who wants candy?
