Day 74 - Gloomy

Don’t get me wrong, sunshine is great and all but gloomy days are also great. You know, those sunless days where everything is gray. You find yourself curling up with a good book drinking something warm and gazing out the window from time to time. I kind of welcome the cold weather… but something tells me I will soon regret it.

Day 73 - Crepes

So today, March 13th, I made plans to meet up with Silvia at a pizza/crepe restaurant, which were simple plans being that it was in my neighborhood. But, alas, I always manage to screw things up, one way or another – it’s a gift, what can I say? I looked it up on google maps and thought I had it memorized, I ventured out on foot and arrived at a pizza joint but guess what? Yep, it was the wrong one. So I asked them if they knew where there was a pizza/crepe place and he looks at me and asks “are you on foot?” I, of course, respond yea. Then he gives me this you-poor-bastard smirk and tells me its waaaay down the street. So I ended up walking like two miles and I was already running late. I get to the end of the street and I still can’t find the place, and to make matters worse I didn’t have Silvia’s number so I couldn’t call her to tell her I was lost. Right about when I was going to give up and go home I received a text from Silvia telling me that she is already at the place and that she is going to order because she got tired of waiting and was starving. After that she tells me how to get to the place and I finally make it. I was about an hour late and she was halfway through her crepe. I learned two things today; 1st don’t trust google maps (however, this can be debated because I did search the wrong place), 2nd crepes can be salty, too (I could have sworn they were just sweet, at least that’s the only kind of crepe I had tasted before).
It was delicious!

Day 71 - Keys

Today I met a gregarious young man that went by the name “Neto”, he was a cool guy, he mentioned he played in a band; guitar, drums and keyboard. But what I didn’t know is that he had been playing piano since he was like 10. He composed his first piece when he was twelve. We went to his house and he showed us his magnificent piano and then proceeded to play for us. The sounds that came out of the instrument were so harmonious that they would, unknowingly, leave you with a beatific expression. I seriously felt like say “I tip my hat to you good sir.”

Day 70- Backyard View

On Saturday we arose to a lovely site. This was the view from the Cruz's backyard, I was in awe. I wanted to sit there all day -- just staring out into that beautiful landscape and losing myself in thought.

Day 69 - Baile de Formatura

I was invited to go to Pindamonhangaba out of the blue with only two hours to spare. Being the impulsive type I said hell yes, packed my bag and jumped on the next bus to São Paulo. The trip itself was not that bad, it took a total of 12 hours but I was still hung-over and slept most of the way. Once there I was greeted by the most charming and hospitable families I have ever met, The Cruz's. In the picture above we have Giovanni and Carolina. I spent a little over two days in Pindamonhangaba but I met so many new and interesting people and enjoyed my stay. I can’t want to return someday.

Day 68 - Trote

Down here in Brazil, all freshmen get hazed. However it is not the kind of hazing we are accustomed to in the states. Here they get covered in flour, vinegar, eggs... or what ever other stinky concoction the sophomores can come up with. then they are paraded down the streets and made to collect money at stoplights to raise money for a party. It truly is all fun and games but in this picture the girl look like she is crying... but the truth is vinegar stings.
